Welcome to Viking Cottages. A homely and cosy accommodation in North Iceland, located only a short drive from the town of Akureyri. Our mission is to offer travellers a home while exploring Iceland. Our apartments are surrounded by stunning nature and even better views. It’s the perfect place for a quiet and relaxing time in between exciting activities that the area has to offer.
LOCATION
Viking Cottages and Apartments are located in an exclusive residential area in Vaðlaheiði, a short 7 minutes drive from Akureyri, the capital of Northern Iceland. The location of the apartments offers the best of both worlds, secluded and surrounded by nature but yet close to Akureyri where you can experience vibrant city life with shops, cafés, bars and restaurants. The views from the cabin are spectacular in all directions, over Akureyri and Eyjafjord. As it is located a short distance from the town itself and away from the city lights, it makes an ideal place to inspect the Aurora Borealis during winter and the amazing midnight sunsets during summer.
SURROUNDINGS AND ACTIVITIES
The location of the cottages offers easy access, not only to the centre of Akureyri but also to the interesting sites in the surroundings. You can go on hiking tours, walk up the mountain Sulur, one of the mountains above Akureyri, you can go on daily horse riding tours or a midnight sun ride, visit naturally heated swimming pool, hire kayaks or go on a diving course. There are a few golf courses in the nearby areas, offering 9-18 holes in stunning surroundings. During winter you can go ski or do cross-country skiing in the best ski resort in Iceland with outstanding views of Akureyri and the Fjord. You can even go dog sledging with huskies, go snowshoe walking or fishing through the ice. Everyone should find something the interest them and of their liking.
It is also very popular to drive the road skirting the beautiful western shore of the Eyjafjordur, visit the magnificent waterfalls, Goðafoss and Dettifoss or other spectacular natural sites such as Dimmuborgir, Mývatn and go whale watching in Húsavík. It is also possible to take an organized day trip from Akureyri to the island of Grimsey, which straddles the Arctic Circle.
